Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Of course, I love food. Mostly, I remember my family and how my mom and dad made the day so special.
Giving thanks every day for our blessings is a great way to live. We all have blessings. You need to stop and think about them. Blessings, like great communication, takes effort and thought.
Nope. That is not excellent communication.
It sounds corny and trite, but we need to talk to each other now more than ever. And you know why.
That’s excellent information and great communication. That warning came a week ago.
So why are so many Americans ignoring that medical advice?
This is why we fail. I wrote this post on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.
This is from CNN’s website:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/25/health/us-coronavirus-wednesday/index.html
“The US reported 2,046 deaths Wednesday — the highest one-day coronavirus death toll the country has reported since early May, Johns Hopkins University data shows.
The country also hit a new daily hospitalization record, with 89,954 people currently hospitalized for Covid-19, according to the Covid Tracking Project. This is the 16th straight day that figure set a record for the pandemic.”
On this Thanksgiving, we still have to look for things to be thankful for.
I’ll begin.
The first woman and the first woman of color to be elected to that high office. When Kamala Harris gave her election night acceptance speech, I wept uncontrollably.
Tears of joy. My prayers were answered after all the hate, racism, and bullying we endured in the last four years.
The shock is that millions of Americans voted for this lying-criminal, Donald Trump.
Are we this nieve? Are we this racist? I have no answers.
Here is what I do know.
Even though our leaders are weak.
On the bright side, Joe Biden is a brilliant adult who has the will to bring us together.
Here is what he is doing.
President-Elect Joe Biden is surrounding himself with smart, experienced people.
The members of his cabinet are diverse and have dedicated their lives to public service. Unlike the Trump cronies, they are not out to make a fast buck and rip off the National Treasury.
They don’t criticize or bully. They give you space and allow you to breathe.
Which brings us back to One-On-One. Remember this when you are working or dealing with co-workers, family, and friends this holiday season.
Be thankful you have family, friends, and good co-workers. Let them breathe.
Don’t criticize.
Don’t bully.
I’m really grumpy. I have some migraine-sinus headache.
My granddaughter is in a screaming phase. She doesn’t use her words.
When her brother picks on her, she screams.
It’s so nerve-wracking.
I say, “Put up your hand and say, please give me space. Don’t scream.”
I blame COVID. We are all trapped in the house.
But what is the alternative? Put on a mask and go for a walk. I’ll try that.
I don’t know if you are gathering this holiday season, but please try to distance. Talk to each other but don’t get physically close. Give each other space.
If you are not going home, do the video chat and really talk about your plans for After COVID. Or what you want for Christmas.
I’m planning. I’m redesigning my website, and I’ve already moved on to 2021.
I’m going to start a weekly newsletter. I’m calling it “Just a Few Words” or “Let’s Talk.” What do you think? Will you subscribe? I’ll throw in Mexican Food recipes from a “Pinch of Mexican!”
I submitted it to audible, and they kept rejecting it for really dumb technical reasons. It was driving me crazy—a short drive. So I’m going to begin sharing each chapter here once a week. And I will post the Chapters on this website.
Here’s what I’m thankful for.
I don’t get a turkey this year. The kids want prime rib. I’ll try to force a turkey on them for Christmas.
I love you all.
