Whom should we blame for High Crime Rates?
Republicans point to Democrats. Running ads in major cities vowing that Republican Candidates will make you safer.
Not True.
This is a quote from an article by Raw Story. “Republicans love to blame Democratic policies for violent crime- but these studies debunk those claims.”
The article then goes on to quote studies that show these claims are false.
Quote:
“In the 2022 midterms, countless Republican candidates — hoping to distract voters from the abortion issue — have been focusing heavily on violent crime and blaming Democrats for the crime rates in major cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans, and Philadelphia.”
That article then quotes another report from The Third Way.
The Third Way’s Article is “The Red State Murder Problem.”
Here is what that report had to say.
“We found that murder rates are, on average, 40 percent higher in the 25 states Donald Trump won in the last presidential election compared to those that voted for Joe Biden. In addition, murder rates in many of these red states dwarf those in blue states like New York, California, and Massachusetts.” End quote.
Eight of the ten states with the highest murder rates in 2020 voted for the Republican presidential nominee in every election this century.
Here are the worst states for Murder according to The Third Way:
“Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Alabama, Missouri, and South Carolina. All are run by Republicans.”
If you want more examples, listen to this.
Jacksonville, a city with a Republican mayor, had 128 more murders in 2020 than San Francisco, a city with a Democrat mayor, despite their comparable populations.
The homicide rate in Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco was half that of House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s Bakersfield, a city with a Republican mayor that overwhelmingly voted for Trump.
Republicans don’t give a damn about crime. It’s a talking point. A lie. Don’t fall for it. Vote Democrat.
