What is the Midterm Curse? And How Did The President and Democrats Defy The Mid-Term Election Curse?
I heard the phrase so many times in the last four months that I just wanted to scream.
Then I did. Scream.
Here are the words. I apologize for repeating them.
“A first-term President’s political party always loses seats in Congress during the mid-term election.”
That’s not a rule. There is no such rule.
Yes. It has happened. A lot. But it also has NOT happened.
So, is it a Curse? Yes. Why not. Let’s call it that for this post, podcast, and video.
THE CURSE
I heard a historian call it an election Correction. Voters don’t want to give the President in Power too much power.
So they put a check on him. They deny him the power of Congress.
But it doesn’t always happen. All the pundits and polls and talking heads didn’t mention that.
NOT ONCE.
All we got for the last six months was anybody near a microphone prophesying about the election was Republicans were going to win and Democrats were going to lose.
Ah!
CURSE!
Let me fill you in on the Presidents who avoided the curse.

Here are some examples of when the President’s Party Gained Seats in the Midterm elections.
1. FDR’s Democratic Party in 1934
President Herbert Hoover, a Republican, presided over the Great Depression spurred by the 1929 stock market crash. In 1932, Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt defeated Hoover in a landslide and went on to push his New Deal legislation.
Recovery wasn’t happening as quickly as promised. But, coming back from an economic crisis, the country gave FDR another nine House Democrats and another 10 Senate Democrats in the 1934 midterm elections to continue his New Deal agenda.
2. Clinton’s Impeachment Threat in 1998
More than six decades later, there was every reason to expect Democratic losses.
In 1998, President Bill Clinton was fending off impeachment over an attempted coverup of his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky that involved allegations of perjury and obstruction of justice.
However, the public essentially turned against House Republicans’ drive to impeach the Democratic president and disapproved of the independent counsel’s investigation. The economy was also strong.
Democrats won five House seats and stayed even in the Senate. Republicans retained control of Congress. Hardly a watershed, this was a significant disappointment to Republicans.
The Republican-controlled House still impeached Clinton for perjury and obstruction of justice. However, the Senate acquitted him, and he served his second term.
3. Bush, the War President
President George W. Bush came into office in 2001 after a deadlocked election that would be determined by a Supreme Court ruling over Florida’s 25 electoral votes.
But the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon put the country on a war footing and rallied the nation behind the new president.
In the 2002 midterm election, the GOP won six House seats and two Senate seats to retake the Senate majority and hold both chambers of Congress.
So President George W. beat the Curse, experts say, because of the Attack on America on 9/11.
Here is one more.
4. John F. Kennedy and The Cuban Missile Crisis 1962.
Russia put nuclear missiles on Cuba. The Soviets then had the capability of attacking the American mainland.
This is from The Midterm Election of 1962.
“The crisis covered much of the latter half of October 1962 and froze the midterm campaign in its tracks as the world’s two superpowers stood eyeball to eyeball. It was the ultimate test of strength and judgment for the young president, John F. Kennedy.
The Soviets backed down. The president’s popularity soared. And his Democratic colleagues in Congress, many of whom were bracing for significant midterm election losses, saw their numbers stay virtually unchanged on Election Day. The Democrats lost only four seats in the House while gaining a handful of seats in the Senate – a far cry from the heavy losses the president’s party has usually sustained in midterm elections.”
The bottom line “The Curse” doesn’t always happen.
The day before the election, I was running errands. And I was listening to local News radio in my car. Of course, it is Right-Wing. Mostly.
There is one show that a former Sheriff hosts. I thought. Well, he’s not going to give me a political lecture on how it Always happens that the party of the President will lose seats in Congress.
No. He did not. Instead, he began quoting polls.
I’m a professional. I don’t believe in Polls. I’ve interviewed the people who conducted polls. I’ve seen how they are born and how the questions are asked.
I don’t believe in polls.
Who gets paid to conduct the polls?
Polls lie. I only believe in one Poll that takes place on election day—counting our votes.
The Polls everybody – mainstream media was quoting in 2022 – showed that election day would produce a Red Tsunami.
Congress is going to run red with republicans.
All Democrats everywhere were going to lose their seats in congress.
Mr. Ex-Sheriff said I predict it’s going to be many, many more seats than expected. It is going to be a blood bath for Democrats.
I was sipping a diet coke, and my mouth dropped open. I screamed. What do you know? You’re a dumb cop.
When the media repeats the skewed results of this poll or that it serves to discourage voters from Voting.
It’s bullshit.
But most people don’t know that. They are too busy with their lives. They are trying to figure out how to make the hamburger stretch into two meals instead of one.
When I got home, I produced a TikTok video. Don’t believe the polls, I said. But TikTok decided to block or do something to all posts from Politically Liberal Creators.
I only got a few views. I was worried. I read about the blocking the next day. Of course, TikTok is controlled by China.
Russia is interfering with our Elections. China is blocking our TikToks.
Lord!
Back to the curse.
You now know What the Curse is. But how did Biden, an allegedly Unpopular President? (I don’t believe that either. Cause, as we see, the pollsters LIE!)
It’s clear to me how he did it. How clear, you ask? Crystal!
First, he worked. He had an agenda, compromised, and delivered with the help of democrats in Congress.
He had win after win.
The Chips Act
A cap on Insulin for seniors
Student Dept forgiveness (why not. Big corporations got it)
Taxing rich corporations. Who are NOT passing on their tax break to us. They are taking the profit for themselves.
He’s addressing global warming.
He didn’t listen to his advisers. He needs new advisors.
I’m available.
He talked to the American people. He campaigned on his successes.
On September 1, 2022 he talked to us. It was a leadership moment. I posted a video on TikTok. I got comments like, “Is she Drunk!” “She’s kidding right. This is parody?”
She’s serious others responded.

He warned Americans about political violence. He called on Americans to vote for democracy. In the speech, he included information about the attack on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband.
I’m a communications professional. It was a great speech. We needed to hear this. We have to work for Democracy
He was mocked. I’m looking at stories, and articles from major news networks and newspapers, and reporters and opinion people are making fun of him.
Do you know who didn’t mock him? Women. Young people. We voted for him.
Finally, three. The president who have defied the Curse served in tough times.
The Depression
The 911 Attack
Clinton’s Economic Successes after a rough time.
And the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Here is what we have been through in the last few years.
A killer pandemic. Mismanagement of that Pandemic from Trump. More a 1 million Americans died.
I still do not believe that that happened. And they let Trump get away with it. Republicans refused to impeach him.
They deserve NOT to be elected. They should all be fired.
A Lying Supreme Court
They cheated and would not let Obama nominate a Supreme Court Justice.
They pushed through three Catholic right-wingers who do not understand the concept of the Separation of Church and State. That is what our country is founded on. That is why pilgrims moved here.
And They Lied. Committed perjury and overturned Roe Versus Wade. Basically saying women do not have a right to Privacy.
Moving forward, they want to continue to politics of hate. No abortions. Investigate Dr. Fauci. What! Lunatics. No same-sex marriage. Who are they to tell us whom we can love?
President Biden has pulled us out of the abyss.
And for all those reasons, that is how President Biden beat the Midterm Curse.
