What is the Stormy Daniels - Donald Trump Case?

I’m going to cover two stories in this one post. First, I will explain the Stormy Daniel’s case, which may cause the legal downfall of former president Donald Trump. Then I will transition to a video podcast, the “Trials of Donald Trump” post.

What is the Stormy Daniels – Donald Trump Case?

I’ll go ahead and outline the case chronologically and cite sources as I move forward.

Sleazy Weekend in Tahoe

July 2006.

Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels, was a rising porn star in 2006 when she attended a celebrity Golf Tournament in Lake Tahoe, California. Donald Trump was 60 years old, newly married, with a new baby, and enjoying the success of his reality television show. According to a story in GQ called “When Trump Met Stormy Daniels: The Strange Story of Four Wild Days in Tahoe,” Trump was accused of kissing several other women without their consent and beginning a second affair with Karen McDougal, a Playboy model.

Trump has denied all these charges.

Michael Cohen and the $130,000 Stormy Payoff

2016
October 7, 2016:
Trump describes to “Access Hollywood” how he gropes women.
That video goes viral.
Dozens of women began sharing stories about how the Republican nominee for President groped them.
Trump’s Attorney, Michael Cohen, changes his mind about paying off porn star Stormy Daniels.
On October 27, 2016, days before the Presidential election:
According to the Wall Street Journal, within days after the “Access Hollywood” interview went public, Cohen wrote Stormy Daniels a check for  $130,000, and she signed a “non-disclosure” agreement.
In November 2016, Trump won the Presidency.
2017
Trump paid Cohen back in installments.
Flash Forward to 2018
January 12, 2018, “The Wall Street Journal” breaks the Stormy Daniels story.
Federal Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York contend that the money Cohen spent was used to help Trump win the election. This violates Federal Campaign Finance Law.
In August 2018, Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to violating federal campaign finance laws. Cohen insists he broke the law at the direction of Donald Trump.
March 9, 2023

According to sources, Trump has been allowed to testify before the Grand Jury. When this happens, an indictment sometimes follows.

Trump is meeting with his legal team in New York. Michael Cohen has met with Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District attorney office, dozens of times in the last couple of weeks.

And it has been confirmed that Cohen is testifying before the Grand Jury on Monday, March 13.

Stormy Daniels – PORN STAR HUSH MONEY CASE –

According to multiple reports, the Manhattan district attorney’s office informed former President Donald Trump’s team that he could face criminal charges for his role in the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels.

Campaign finance Violation.  Which could be a felony.

Flashback to 2016.

Prior before Trump winning the presidential election, we learned that hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent to silence women, including two Karen McDougal and Stephanie Clifford, aka “Stormy Daniels,”

Both of these women had alleged affairs or sexual encounters with Trump.

In October 2016 — weeks before the presidential election, as Trump was being publicly besieged by a series of sexual harassment or assault accusations from many different women — adult film actress Stormy Daniels was preparing to come forward with her own story about a consensual sexual encounter she’d had with Trump in 2006.

But, her representatives let it be knownTrumpshe’d also be willing to accept payment for her silence.

Earlier in the campaign, Michael Cohen, Trump’sTrumpstory account had worked with American Media Inc. — the parent company of the National Enquirer — to “catch and kill” unflattering stories about Trump, in which AMI would pay accusers for the exclusive rights to their storyaccount., and then not publish those stories. AMI executives were involved in the discussions about paying Daniels too, but they ultimately balked — so Cohen had to take care of it himself.

Cohen set up a shell company, Essential Consultants, and sent $130,000 to Daniels’s lawyer on October 27. Later, after Trump won the election, he paid Cohen back in installments in 2017.

The problem, federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York later alleged, was that this violated campaign finance law. They argued that since this money was spent to help Trump win the election, it should have been disclosed as campaign spending and subject to legal limits on donationsbrokedonations  brokebroke the news the news

The key is that when Trump paid Cohen back for the hush money, he classified it as legal fees. Prosecutors want to argue that that amounted to illegal falsification of business records and a violation of New York state election law, which makes it a felony.

Flash to 2018, when the Wall Street Journal broke the Stormy Daniels hush money story.

Cohen eventually pleaded guilty in August 2018 to violating federal campaign finance laws with those payments to Stormy and others.

In legal documents, Trump is identified as “Individual-1.”

Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison, but served less than that because of COVID. He pled guilty to tax evasion,   lying to Congress in its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election andand donations.story accountbeforedonations broke, his role in funneling payments to silence two women who alleged that they had had affairs with Trump.

Today is Saturday, March 11.

According to sources, Trump is meeting with his legal team in New York. Michael Cohen has met with Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District attorney office, dozens of times in the last couple of weeks.

And it has been confirmed that Cohen is testifying before the Grand Jury on Monday, March 13.
