If you are lucky enough to have your Mom with you this Mother’s Day, just say one simple sentence to her, “I Love You, Mom.” That’s it. That’s all I want or need.
I am thankful every day of my life that Linda Ramirez Moraga was my Mom. She was our Rock. She taught me how to read, took me to see Oklahoma and South Pacific. So I owe her my love for reading and of theater and art.
I was a disabled child. In the 1960’s I could have been labeled a “Cripple.”
My Mom would NOT allow it. She refused to say the word. And would not let me say, “I can’t.”
She taught me that I could do or be anything.
Her advice: “Just read, go to college, speak up for yourself and the disadvantaged.”
I am a Mom now, and although, I’ve tried to be like my Mom, I never quite measure up. But, I’ll keep trying.
