Just say, “Election was Corrupt. Leave the rest to me and Republican Congressmen”

Date

“Just say it was corrupt. And leave the rest to me and Republican Congressmen.” -President Trump to DOJ Leaders.

It is January 3, 2021, and Department of Justice lawyers are in the oval office.

After losing lawsuit after lawsuits at the state level. The Trump White House then turned to the Department of Justice.

Trump wanted the acting attorney general, Jeffrey Rosen, to say the election was corrupt.

Rosen had replaced Bill Barr who resigned because he refused to go along with Trump’s plan.

Two problems.

One – The DOJ works for the Federal Government. Not for the President, not for Congress, not for the states. And Elections are the responsibility of the States

Lawsuits had already been filed at the state levels and dismissed.

Two – The Election was not corrupt. Yes. There were pockets of voting problems but not enough to overturn the election.

Hi, I’m Gloria Moraga; I’m talking about Hearing #5.

This is the basic synopsis of the fifth Jan 6 Congressional Hearing into the Attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Witnesses included:

Jeffrey A. Rosen, Former Acting Attorney General

Richard Donoghue, Former Acting Deputy Attorney General

Steven Engel, Former Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel

They testified about that Jan. 3 meeting.

They confirmed that Trump and his chief of staff Mark Meadows along with Rudy Guiliani and others cooked up the “just say the election was corrupt” plan after Trump lost the election.

But the top DOJ Lawyers refused to go along.

Rosen had recently replaced Barr, now, Trump threatened to replace Rosen with a man named Jeffrey Clark.

Clark was willing to say, “it was corrupt.”

Clark had no criminal law experience at the Department of Justice. He was an environmental attorney.

The Jan 3 Meeting – A Screaming Match

So it’s a crazy, screaming meeting at the White House. At one point, one of the attorneys said to Clark, “why don’t you go back to your office? If there is an oil spill, we will call you.”

After all the screaming, Trump eventually backed down because after all the senior leaders of the Justice Department threatened to quit.

This would have overshadowed Trump’s election fraud claims.

Hearing number 5 what a doozie.

The House Oversight Committee has copies of all emails Trump’s people sent to the DOJ pressuring them to sign off on the “say it was a Corrupt”  plan. Those emails are now public record.
